Cher ami, chere amie,

Notre ami Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh a ete enleve depuis plus d'un an et
demi. Il y a un an, la commission d'enquete tchadienne concluait a
son deces, peu de temps apres son enlevement probable  par les forces armees tchadiennes. Aujourd'hui, la verite que nous exigeons collectivement n'est toujours par connue.

1) Le depute Gaetan Gorse et le senateur Jean-Pierre Sueur continuent
a agir aupres des autorites francaises pour exiger la verite.
Ils ont recu recemment une lettre du President de la Republique
Francaise qui n'apporte aucun element d'information decisif.

2) Comme nous vous l'annoncions le 3 février, un prix Ibni Oumar
Mahamat Saleh sera cree pour quela mémoire de notre collègue reste
vivante et pour poursuivre son engagement en faveur des mathematiques
en Afrique.  Cette action a ete approuvee par les trois societes,
SFdS, SMAI et SMF. Le prix sera attribue tous les ans a un jeune mathematicien africain par un comite scientifique mis en place par le
CIMPA. Il financera un sejour scientifique. Une souscription
internationale, a laquelle les signataires de la petition seront
appeles a contribuer, sera mise en place.
Le calendrier est le suivant:
-lancement de la souscription le 1er octobre
-lancement du premier appel a candidatures le 1er octobre, avec une date limite de candidature au 15 novembre,
-choix du premier beneficiaire avant le 31 décembre 2009.

3) Toka Diagana nous a communique que le projet d'un Numéro spécial de la « African Diaspora Journal of Mathematics »  (http://commun-math-anal.org/adjm81.htm) consacré à la mémoire de notre collègue tchadien, Pr Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh progresse.
La date limite pour les contributions a été reportée jusqu'au 30 septembre 2009. Ainsi tous celles et ceux qui souhaitent encore contribuer à ce Numéro spécial sont priés de soumettre leurs contributions  au courriel suivant: adjmathematics@gmail.com. Ce faisant, prière de n’oublier de préciser que votre contribution est destinée au Numéro spécial.

Our friend Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh was kidnapped for over a year and
a half. One year ago, the Chadian commission of inquiry has concluded
that he was dead. His death has probably occured very rapidly after his removal by the Chadian armed forces. The complete truth, that we
collectively demand, is still not known.

1) The French deputy Gaetan Gorse and Senator Jean-Pierre Sueur
continue to make pressure on  French authorities to demand the truth.
They recently received a letter from the President of the French
Republic, which offers no decisive  information.

2) As we announced on 3 February, a price Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh
will be created in memory of our colleague and to continue its
commitment to Mathematics in Africa. This action was approved by the
three French mathematical societies, SFdS, SMAI and SMF. The prize
will be awarded annually to a young mathematician from Africa by a
scientific committee set up by CIMPA. It will fund a scientific visit.
An international subscription, to which the signatories of the
petition will be asked to contribute, will be established.
The schedule for the price is as follows:
-Launch of the subscription on October 1
-Launch of first call for applications on October 1, with an
application deadline to November 15,
-choice of the first recipient before 31 December 2009.

The deadline for contributions  has been extended to September 30, 2009.
